Welcome from President Lowell Graham
On behalf of the American Bandmasters Association (ABA), Suzy and I would like to welcome one and all to our national convention being held in beautiful Loveland, Colorado. In addition to the business and rigor of our convention, there will be featured performances by Kansas State University, Colorado State University, The University of Texas at El Paso, the University of Northern Colorado, and none other than The United States Air Force Band from Washington D.C. This is indeed a dream come true on so many levels, as it is the first time our national convention will be held in Colorado. It will be the first time these four university bands and their conductors will have performed at any ABA convention. Therefore, the theme for this event: “COLORADO – A Dream Come True!”
We gather to celebrate the history of bands and music in our nation. We pay homage to our founding fathers while taking their example to look forward to the future. Each member of this storied association is a leader, mentor and visionary with a history of success. Without these qualities, our association would not be as impactful as it is. It is about new and renewed friendships that strengthen our resolve to impart traditions and philosophies.
I invite you to come, listen, and yes, marvel at this gathering of artists celebrating the past, present and the future. They come to make music from the heart and to share this passion. They are colleagues, not competitors which makes this a very special organization and an environment which is on display for all to witness. Come and be part of history as this is OUR “Dream Come True.”

We are excited to be co-hosting the 85th Annual Convention of the American Bandmasters Association in Loveland, Colorado.
The Embassy Suites Loveland Hotel/Hammons Conference Center is an award-winning venue and a perfect location for this convention. Colorado boasts 300 days of sunshine a year, so our chances for nice weather in March are very good. But because the Hammons Conference Center (where all convention events will be held, including concerts) is directly connected to the hotel, rest assured we will have a great convention under any conditions.
The northern front range of Colorado is booming, and we are excited to share it with you. Area highlights include a rapidly growing craft brewery industry, a thriving arts scene, some unique history, and easy access to our magnificent mountains. Our excursions to Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park, Fort Collins (home of CSU), Greeley (home of the UNC), and nearby Loveland will offer a variety of fun and excitement.
This will be a fantastic convention full of spectacular scenery, great concerts, and excursions offering something for everyone.
We invite you all to be a part of the first-ever ABA convention to be held in beautiful Colorado. Let’s make it a dream come true together!
